Transcripto was developed around a simple tension: students may still value handwriting, while digital study environments make storage, organisation and access increasingly important.

A Bluetooth-enabled smart pen designed to let students write on ordinary paper while their notes are digitally transcribed in real time to a laptop or cloud storage.

Who It Was Built For

Australian tertiary students.

Students who value handwritten learning but operate within increasingly digital academic environments. The project focused its marketing objective on tertiary students aged 18–25.

The opportunity was not simply to create another smart pen. It was to combine the familiarity of ordinary handwriting with the convenience of digital storage at a more accessible proposed price point.

Neo SmartPen and Livescribe keep real ink and Bluetooth, but ask for special paper or a higher price. Rocketbook and Apple Pencil drop real ink altogether. None combined all five.

Therefore the proposed first-year production volume would not itself reach the calculated break-even point. This was not hidden in the original model. It was treated as evidence the concept still faced commercial constraints.
